Head out to Woodhill
Rodney’s Woodhill Forest offers the perfect
place to try something new
Camping, Walking, running, mountain biking,
hunting. horse riding, picnicking. scrambling
among the treetops. orienteering, riding
motorbikes or swimming in the lagoon lakes —
there’s plenty to do in the Woodhill Forest at
Helensville.
An ideal outing for young and old alike, the
Couldrey House Museum located at Wenderholm Regional Park gives visitors an opportunity to step back in lime and immerse themselves in the history of New Zealand’s yesteryear. Originally built in 1857, the house has been moved from its original site close to the
cliffs
at the southern end of the beach and has undergone extensions and restorations over the years, but its decor and style are steeped in history. Set in beautifully manicured grounds. Couldrey House portrays a country home from the Victorian era.
Little
Toot
The popular steam train runs every half hour to
cater for families looking to spend a day out on
the Coast. If a leisurely ride on LittleToot
isn’t enough to keep the kids going, the animal
park and playground are sure to please.
The animal park is home to a variety of budgies,
doves and cockatiels as well as the ever popular
goats, rabbits and sheep and the friendly donkey
is always a popular choice for little ones
looking to get up close with the animals.
Families can pack a picnic and enjoy a day in
the flourishing gardens.
The Whangaparana Steam Railway is open daily
from 10mm. to 4p.m. during school holidays.
BeesOnline
Honey Centre & Café
The BeesOnline Honey Centre and Cafe is a
contemporary purpose-built multi-award winning
complex set picturesquely in the countryside on
State Highway 16 at Waimauku. Visitors are
encouraged to view the activities of this modern
working Honey Centre at their leisure and
experience the unique flavours of their honey
range through free tastings. Their shop enables
you to purchase exceptional honey products
gathered from Auckland's untamed West Coast.
Muriwai Gannet Colony
One of the scenic icons of Rodney District must
surely be the gannet colony at Muriwai in the
west. The rugged west coast offers a bleak
nesting place for New Zealand's northernmost
colony of gannets that come here in the
spring to breed. Nests were originally on
Motuara Island but the increasing numbers have
spread to the headland.
Breeding starts
in early August when the colony is full of noise
and activity as the birds find their lifelong
mates. Elaborate and graceful courting rituals
take place.
November brings the chicks that clamour for food
from their busy parents. Gracefully the gannets
soar above their offspring then swoop towards
the sea for the fish to feed their greedy
chicks.

Steam Boat
Rides on the S.S. Kapanui
Join us for one of our special Mahurangi River Steam
& Heritage Trips and see first hand the beauty &
tranquility of the river that was so instrumental in
establishing the Warkworth District.
The boat, built by Charlie Thompson in 1929, has now
been extensively rebuilt with a restyled cabin to
provide shelter for passengers. A new coal fired
boiler and steam engine has been fitted.

Action
Raceway: Indoor Go-Kart Centre. Bumper Boats
A great place for fun with the family, or with your
mates. The Go-kart centre features a fully equipped
action raceway with safety tires, Start/Finish
flags, pits and stylish go-karts. The Bumper Boats
are located in a landscaped pool, complete with
rocks and palm trees.
The Action Raceway is
located just before the turnoff to the motorway to
Auckland, after Silverdale if you are coming from
Orewa.
Gulf
Harbour Gulf Harbour is a unique

Tiri
Matangi Island Tiritiri Matangi lies 4km
off the coast of Whangaparaoa Peninsula. Tiritiri Matangi is a scientific reserve and a
sanctuary for rare wildlife. Visitors are welcome
but are asked to treat the island with care and
respect. After centuries of Maori occupation followed by
European farming had turned most of Tiritiri into
rolling grassland, Tiritiri is being replanted
with native trees to accelerate the natural
regeneration of the coastal forest and to provide
a rich and varied habitat for bird species.
Goat
Island Goat island is one of
New Zealand's most successful marine reserves. A magical maritime world with fish swimming
all around you. Rub noses with Grand-daddy
snapper or simply experience the vast array of
colourful marine life. You can dive, snorkel or
take the glass bottomed boat out and view the
marine life "dry" !
Pioneer
Village
Among the shops and streets of Silverdale lies the Pioneer Village, an oasis of local history and nostalgia, run and maintained by the
Silverdale and District Historical Society.
The village was established in 1969 on the former Silverdale (Wade) School
grounds and features a number of local historic buildings and artefacts, a museum and archives as well as herb and rose gardens.
