The 2009 Orewa New World Santa Parade was
fantastic! It was a festive, colourful
and noisy time and all those that took part in
the parade were delighted at the opportunity to
watch the children’s faces light up with joy.
There
were over 135 floats which included tiny
tots television heroes such as Peter
Rabbit, Nickelodeon characters Dora the
Explorer, Sponge Bob and Square Pants,
Clifford the Dog, Guggemusik brass band,
magical stilt walkers, Hibiscus Hot Rod
Club, Dallas the Clown and 100 children
dressed up in magical costumes and
Ronald McDonald, this years parade was a
huge reminder that Christmas is fast
approaching and a special day in many
children’s lives.
Crowds began
assembling early as families took advantage of
key viewing spots with approximately 6000 people
often standing five and six deep throughout the
Orewa town centre.
Christmas is all
about community spirit and with companies like
New World Orewa, Fulton Hogan Ltd, Neville
Brothers Cartage and Transcon Warkworth Ltd; it
makes large community events like this possible.
The parade has taken
on a Rodney District wide focus, attracting many
commercial businesses and community groups from
outside the Hibiscus Coast area. This is
wonderful, said Leanne Smith because the
community spirit is strong and the effort and
time dedicated to individual floats is enormous.
It was a difficult
task of judging the floats for this year’s
parade.

Best Team – Dae Han Tae Kwondo
Most Creative – Elaine Morheh from Waiwera
Best Child focused float – Kingsway Primary.
